Application

For the very finest and healthiest cuisine: Argan oil is not only extremely flavoursome, but also a real treasure! This is because argan oil differs from many other oils due to two very special ingredients: the valuable, rare phytosterols schottenol and spinasterol, which are not found in other edible oils at all or only in small quantities.

An application tip from our customers: Argan oil is excellent as a skin and hair care product. Its high-quality ingredients soothe sensitive and blemished skin and its moisturising effect prevents dehydration and therefore skin ageing.

Available packaging sizes: In the original Miron violet glass bottle: 100 ml, 500 ml and 1 litre

Origin

History / Origin

The argan tree (Argania spinosa, argania) belongs to the group of soap trees and is one of the oldest plants in the world with a history spanning around 25 million years. The argania specialises in extreme regions and can live up to 400 years. Despite intensive cultivation efforts elsewhere, it only thrives in a relatively small area in the south-west Moroccan region of Souss-Massa-Draa. There it defies extreme heat thanks to its enormous water storage capacity.

In this argan grove, the Arganeraie, which is protected by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve, around 20 million arganias grow, the protection and economic utilisation of which is strictly regulated by the state. Even the local Berber families, who have actually used and valued the tree as their tree of life for centuries, are subject to these strict controls. The tree itself is also protected by thorns and has an almost unbelievable resilience.

The fruits of the argan tree are yellow, the size of a plum and contain up to three extremely hard, hazelnut-sized kernels, each containing an almond the size of a sunflower seed. Moroccan Berber women have been making hand-pressed argan oil from these small almonds for centuries.

Arab researchers and scientists are said to have been describing the beneficial uses and high quality of argan oil since the 13th century.

The Harvest

Harvesting the yellow argan fruit is extremely difficult due to a number of circumstances: the thorns prevent the fruit from being picked by hand and the fact that the arganias bear ripe fruit and flowers for the next harvest at the same time means that the trees cannot be shaken. The Berber women can therefore only collect the ripe fruit that has already fallen to the ground.

The argan groves for our argan oil are closed to grazing during the harvest period from July to September - contrary to other production methods, goats have nothing to do with the extraction of our argan kernels. It is the women with their donkeys and baskets who collect the fruit by hand and dry it in the sun before storing it. Our oil meets all the usual hygiene standards.

Production

The production of our valuable organic argan oil in traditional hand pressing
The Berber women are still the specialists when it comes to argan oil, which is why our argan oil is produced exclusively by them using traditional manual labour. The pulp is removed from the dried fruit and the kernels are cracked open with a stone to extract the oily almonds. The almonds for our argan oil are not roasted before pressing.

The rich seeds are then ground by hand in a stone mill. With the addition of small amounts of pure water, the almond pulp produced in this way becomes a creamy, oily paste, which is stirred and kneaded until the oil comes out of the mass in a small trickle after about 30 minutes. One litre of argan oil requires 30 kg of fruit, i.e. the harvest from five trees.

Argan oil is available in two commercially available flavours: roasted seeds produce an oil with a slightly reddish colour and a strong nutty flavour and aroma. This oil is used in sophisticated cuisine. Argan oil from unroasted seeds is natural and therefore light golden, clear and neutral in flavour. This oil is also used in the kitchen, but also in cosmetics.

The high price of argan oil compared to other oils is generally due to the artisanal details described above and the fact that only around 4 million litres of the oil can be produced each year due to the limited number of trees. The production process is very original and old-fashioned; the organic and socio-economically important production process helps the local people directly, especially as our company pays higher prices than are usual on the world market. This detail in particular determines the price paid for our organic argan oil.

The significance of some nutrients for the human body

Vitamins are essential for many vital functions in our organism. As our metabolism cannot synthesise them itself (to meet our needs), they must be supplied with food. Vitamin E is one of the most important vitamins. This is actually a collective term for fat-soluble substances, some of which have an antioxidant effect.

Vitamin E is a component of all cell membranes. One of its most important functions is as a lipid-soluble antioxidant. It therefore acts as a radical scavenger at the cellular level. The main active ingredient of vitamin E, a-tocopherol, can be stored and transported particularly well by the human body. As vitamin E is very heat-resistant, it remains almost completely intact even when deep-fried.

Vitamin E helps to protect the cells from oxidative stress

Quality

Our almond seeds are not roasted, but cold-pressed in an extra-gentle process.
Even inside the oil press, the temperature remains consistently below 38°C.
