History
History / Legends / Lore
Aloe vera has been known for thousands of years for its mysterious beauty, natural elegance and legendary resilient properties. In some civilizations it was even worshipped as a deity.
The oldest known records of aloe vera and the use of its juice are around 6000 years old and come from Egypt.
In many places, aloe vera was considered to be the plant whose "blood" bestowed beauty, health and immortality. According to legend, both Cleopatra and Nefertiti appreciated the beneficial juice and used it for daily beauty care.
For the emperor of ancient China, the horny edge spines of the aloe leaves symbolized the sacred nails of the deity.
For the Indians of the New World, aloe was one of the 16 sacred plants that also had the status of a god. The Mayan Indians even gave the juice of the desert plant the name "source of youth".
Christopher Columbus carried flower pots with aloe vera plants on his
ships so that he could supply his men with the legendary juice of aloe vera.

Aloe Vera
Interesting facts about the legendary desert lily
Aloe Vera Barbadensis Miller is a plant from the genus Aloe, which belongs to the subfamily Affodillaceae and the order Asparagales, i.e. asparagus-like plants. Of the almost 400 species of aloe known to date, Aloe Vera Barbadensis Miller is ideally suited as a food/juice. It grows in Central and South America, Africa and the Mediterranean region.
Aloe vera can survive for many months without rain - a basic requirement for survival in areas with hot, dry summers and mild winters. It has the ability to store incredible amounts of moisture in its fleshy leaves. To prevent the water stored in this way from being lost again, specific leaf pores optimally seal the water depots.
In addition, the aloe has a kind of turbo self-healing program: if it is injured by a cut or the breaking off of a leaf tip, the plant is able to help itself with its own active substances within a very short time. The leaf injury is closed again in just one hour, effectively preventing the loss of large amounts of moisture.
